What they say:

From our distillery in Mackmyra Bruk in Sweden comes a new, well-balanced, light and fruity character: Mackmyra Brukswhisky, aka The Swedish Whisky. Created to be enjoyed, on any occasion.

Mackmyra Brukswhisky is made from our soft elegant recipe matured in bourbon casks. We then spiced it up with a special combination of large and small casks: rich sherry and a touch of our fresh Swedish oak. For a light hint of juniper smoke, we added some of our smoky variety.  This is bottled at 41.4% ABV

This whisky has won a plethora of awards, and is highly recommended by many an expert, I was really looking forward to finally trying some Mackmyra (@mackmyra), Stewart and I both reviewed this and here our notes below:

Kirsty

Nose: Fresh, astringent, picking up both sherry and wine (bad wine), notes of vanilla are fleeting, changing into something bitter, slight acetone and a solid hit of young oak.  Next in strides citrus, lemon, lemon peel, lemon zest all wrapped up in a bow of, dare I say it, lemon!  Once this recedes there is a final note of resin combined with balsamic glaze.

Palate: Hotter than I expected for the %, the lemon on the nose is here in abundance, once the heat dissipates it’s lemon all the way, like lemon drizzle cake on a summers day, it’s sweet, light and fresh.  Once the tidal wave of lemon recedes, in comes a gentle cereal notes, barley with a sweet almost corn like finish, you can taste the young oak, but I personally can’t find any of the smoke mentioned.

Finish: Longer than I expected, becomes more chewy with toffee notes, it finally breathes its last in a gentle sigh of vanilla.

Stewart

Nose: Light, fruity, green apples shining though mixed with vanilla pod, slight hint of cherries.

Palate: Chocolate covered vanilla ice cream, slight spice, lemon rind floating in a pool of custard. Interesting dram and a great introduction into the world of Mackmyra. We were lucky enough to find this hiding in our Drinks by the Dram Advent Calendar (@DrinksByTheDram)
