As the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival 2014 begins this Thursday, 1^st May, festival goers will be gearing up to start a five day treasure hunt for liquid gold.

Liquid Treasures, an event created by the Tomintoul and Glenlivet Development Trust (@TGDevTrust), offers bottles of single malt from ‘The Famous Five’ – Glenfarclas, Tomintoul, Tamnavulin, The Glenlivet and Cragganmore distilleries. Together worth over £600, the bottles will be hidden in the dramatic landscape of the stunning Tomintoul and Glenlivet region of Speyside – where the dram began.

With treasure hunters travelling from all corners of the globe to take part, from Canada to Japan, Spain to Sweden, Liquid Treasures is set to be a highlight of the festival programme, which includes over 350 whisky events.

Whisky Corner (@WhiskyCorner) has been given the official announcement of the five single malt bottles!

Thursday 1^st May will see gatherers chasing the peaty-gold Glenfarclas 105 (60% volume) – a superb cask strength rich whisky created by the Grant family.

If you’re joining in the hunt on Friday 2^nd May, Tomintoul 21 year old single malt is what you will be looking for. This is now a rare bottle, at 40% volume, which has been crafted from a selection of the finest bourbon casks. With exotic fruits and floral notes, this is a bottle not to be missed.

Those seeking the amber nectar on Saturday 3^rd May are in for a treat – Tamnavulin 12 year old single malt whisky is on offer. Aged in oak casks, it is now discontinued and a rare find!

A special edition for the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival (@spirit_speyside), The Glenlivet has launched a single cask edition, Auchbreck, and this will be waiting to be discovered on Sunday 4^th May.

To end the five day hunt, on Monday 5^th May is a Cragganmore 21 year old. One of only 5856 bottles distilled in 1989 and bottled in 2012 at natural cask strength of 56% volume – treasure hunters will find a fantastic addition to their whisky collection.

Covering the AB37 9 postcode area, Liquid Treasures will challenge you. Be warned, you won’t be able to get everywhere on foot so transport is highly recommended.
